Leo Fong was born in Canton, China. He immigrated to the United States at the age of 5, and settled in Widener, Arkansas with his parents. He graduated with the B.A. degree in Physical Education from Hendrix College, Conway, Arkansas; Master of Divinity degree from Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas; and a M.A. degree in Social Work from California State University, Sacramento, California.
A lifelong fitness and martial arts practitioner, Mr. Fong holds Black Belts in Karate, Tae Kwan Do, and Arnis, Filipino Stick Fighting Art. He is a former Collegiate Boxing Champion. Among some of his teachers are Bruce Lee in Jeet Kune Do, Remy Presas in Modern Arnis, Angel Cabales in Serrada Escrima, Weight Training and Body Building under former Mr. Universe Bill Pearl.
In 1994 Dillman Karate International awarded Mr. Fong a 10th Degree Black Belt in Pressure Point Fighting and in 2006 Fong was inducted into the prestigious Black Belt Hall of Fame. After over 75 years of practicing martial arts and participating in various fitness programs, Leo Fong has synthesized all his experience into a program call CHI FUNG, a low impact exercise program based on Tai Chi, and Qigong principles, using the western physiology of weight training. His mantra for everyone who participates in CHI FUNG “The Breadth of Life-The Power to Live!“.
Mr. Fong is also an author and film-maker. He has written over 14 books on fitness, martial arts, and motivation. His film logy consists of 27 feature movies and documentaries. In addition he served as a Family Counselor and Social Worker for San Joaquin department of Public Assistance for five years.
